New Zealand has won their first game of the T20 World Cup with a 71-run win over Bangladesh in South Africa.

Opener Suzie Bates scored unbeaten 81 runs as the White Ferns posted 189 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh could only manage 118-8 in their 20 overs.

New Zealand needed a big win to stand a chance of progressing to the last four, after losing their first two games.

New Zealand could still make the knockout stages if they secure another resounding win over Sri Lanka and results elsewhere go their way. At the same time, Bangladesh will head home after their final game against hosts South Africa.
