Tom Walsh wins Bronze in Shot Put

Tom Walsh has won New Zealand’s first ever bronze medal for men’s shot put at the Rio Olympics.

Walsh managed a best throw of 21.36 metres.

American, Ryan Crouser, won the competition with an Olympic record throw of 22.52m. Pre-event favourite Joe Kovacs, also from America, finished second with a best throw of 21.78m.

New Zealand’s Jacko Gill was ninth with 20.50m throw. This meant that he just miss the top-eight cutoff for the final three rounds by 14cm.
