Arne Slot, the current manager of Feyenoord, will take over as Liverpool’s manager next season after Juergen Klopp leaves the club at the end of this campaign.
Slot announced his new role during a news conference, marking the end of Klopp’s memorable tenure with the Premier League club.
Klopp, who has managed Liverpool since 2015, coached his final game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Slot, who has been Feyenoord’s manager since 2021, expressed mixed emotions about leaving the Dutch club but is excited for his new challenge at Liverpool.
During his time at Feyenoord, Slot achieved significant success, winning the Eredivisie league title in the 2022-23 season and the KNVB Cup this year. He also led the team to the Europa Conference League final in his first season. Feyenoord acknowledged Slot’s departure with a farewell video, celebrating his contributions.
Liverpool needed to pay Feyenoord an undisclosed amount to secure Slot, who had extended his contract with the Dutch club until 2026. Slot’s aggressive, attacking style of football has made him a sought-after coach, attracting interest from other English clubs like Crystal Palace, Leeds United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Slot’s attacking football and recent achievements made him an ideal candidate for Liverpool. His first season at Feyenoord saw the team finish third, and the following year, they won the league title. This season, they narrowly missed out on repeating their title success, with PSV Eindhoven claiming the top spot.
