Parker wins world crown

New Zealand boxer Joseph Parker has won the World Boxing Organization World Heavyweight title after beating American-Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr.

The bout was close and needed a judges decision to split them. The three judges scored the fight 114-114, 115-113 and 115-113.

Parker has become the first New Zealand-born World Heavyweight Champion in winning the title.

The 24-year-old is now undefeated in 22 of his professional fights and holds one of the four major world titles.

He now holds one of the four major world titles.

Ruiz started the bout better, dominating Parker.However, as the bout wore on Parker used his superior fitness to his advantage.

Following the win Parker said the result was for New Zealand and thanked the fans who’d supported him while on his journey to become a world champion.
