On Day 10 of the Paris 2024 Olympics, New Zealand celebrated a silver medal and a gold medal. Lets take a look into those and other highlights from our day.

Women’s Team Sprint:

The Kiwi cyclists Ellesse Andrews, Rebecca Petch, and Shaane Fulton earned the medal, finishing just behind Great Britain, who set a new world record with a time of 45.186 seconds. Germany took the bronze medal in this event.

Atheletics:

In athletics, George Beamish narrowly missed qualifying for the 3000m steeplechase final, finishing seventh in his heat where only the top five advanced. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Men’s Team Pursuit cyclists, including Aaron Gate, Campbell Stewart, Keegan Hornblow, and Tom Sexton, qualified sixth overall for the first round with a time of 3:45.616. Eliza McCartney, Olivia McTaggart, and Imogen Ayris all advanced to the Women’s Pole Vault final, as officials couldn’t narrow down the top 12 in qualifying. Connor Bell competed in the Men’s Discus, throwing a longest distance of 62.88 meters, which was not enough to qualify for the final.

Kayak Cross:

Finn Butcher won the gold medal in the Men’s Kayak Cross, leading the race from start to finish. Luuka Jones finished fifth overall after a penalty prevented her from reaching the final. Take a look at our KKN Article to hear more.

Sailors:

New Zealand’s sailors had a busy day in Marseille. Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson are in third place after nine races in the Mixed Multihull event. In kite surfing, Lukas Walton-Keim and Justina Kitchen are in 15th and 16th place, respectively, after five races. Thomas Saunders is in seventh place in the dinghy races after eight races, while Greta Pilkington finished 34th overall.

Wrestling:

In wrestling, Tayla Ford was defeated 6-0 by French favorite Koumba Larrouque in the Women’s Freestyle 68kg event. In speed climbing, Sarah Tetzlaff missed the final but set a new Oceania record and personal best time of 8.39 seconds.

Mixed Team Relay:

Finally, the New Zealand team finished 14th in the Mixed Team Relay triathlon event. Hayden Wilde, Nicole van der Kaay, Dylan McCullough, and Ainsley Thorpe gave their best efforts, with Wilde experiencing a crash that affected their overall standing. Despite challenges, the team completed the race in 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 23 seconds.
