New Zealand defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final of the tri-nation cricket series, securing a perfect build-up to the Champions Trophy.
Pakistan, playing at home, was bowled out for 242, while the Black Caps comfortably chased the target, finishing at 243-5 in the 46th over. Fast bowler Will O’Rourke took four wickets, and captain Mitchell Santner contributed with his lowest bowling figures in a one-day international (2-20).
Daryl Mitchell (57) and Tom Latham (56) led the run chase, ensuring New Zealand’s third consecutive victory in the tournament. Pakistan’s bowlers struggled, conceding 16 wides. New Zealand had already defeated Pakistan and South Africa in the group stage.
Latham had a lucky outing, as he survived two dropped catches and a missed lbw before reaching his half-century off 60 balls. He and Mitchell built a strong 87-run partnership that played a key role in the win. Opener Devon Conway (48) also contributed, forming a 71-run stand with Kane Williamson (34).
New Zealand and Pakistan will meet again in the opening match of the Champions Trophy on the same ground. Captain Santner acknowledged the team’s strong performance but emphasised that the real challenge begins at the Champions Trophy.
