NSW win State of Origin Opener

New South Wales has beaten Queensland 22-12 in the State of Origin game one in Melbourne.

In front of a crowd of massive 87,122 people at the MCG, the Blues took a 1-0 series lead after a hard-fought and fluctuating match.

The Blues had a slender 8-6 lead at the break but fell behind early in the second half, before powering to score the final three tries.

Rookies Latrell Mitchell, Tom Trbojevic and Josh Addo-Carr all scored tries as well as James Tedesco who was named Man of the Match.

Queensland must regroup before game two on June 24 in Sydney.
