Lydia Ko has won the Women’s British Open, securing her third major title in an emotional victory at St. Andrews, the historic home of golf.

This win adds to a remarkable summer for Ko, who also recently earned an Olympic gold medal in Paris. The 27-year-old New Zealander finished the tournament two strokes ahead of a strong field that included top-ranked players like Nelly Korda and defending champion Lilia Vu.

Ko’s winning moment came on the 18th hole, where she sank a birdie putt to finish seven under par. As her competitors tried to catch up in challenging weather, Ko waited anxiously, knowing her lead was slim. When Vu’s attempt to force a playoff fell short, Ko’s victory was confirmed, and she cried tears of joy with her caddie.

This victory is Ko’s first major championship in eight years, marking a triumphant return to the top of the sport. Her last major wins were in 2016 and 2015 when she was still a teenage golfing prodigy. Now, with her experience and continued success, Ko has cemented her place among golf’s greats.

Reflecting on her achievements, Ko humorously compared her various wins, saying each is special in its own way, much like choosing between parents. As a three-time major champion and an Olympic gold medalist, Ko’s summer has truly been one for the history books.
