Irish beach reappears overnight

May 10, 2017

A beach that was swept away more than 30 years ago from a remote island off the west coast of Ireland has reappeared after thousands of tons of sand were deposited on top of the rocky coastline.

Sand gave way to rocks at the beach at Dooagh, north-west Ireland, after a powerful storm in 1984.

But 33 years later, Mother Nature turned back the sands of time as a freak tide at Easter saw the golden sand return to the small village.

Hundreds of tonnes of sand were dumped in the area where the beach once stood, restoring the 300m stretch of golden sand.
