The Indian Premier League (IPL) started in 2023 with the injury of Kane Williamson.

Williamson suffered a knee injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) opener match on Saturday morning (New Zealand time).

It is unclear how severe the injury is. Black Caps coaching and medical staff are expected to receive a more detailed prognosis from Williamson’s Gujarat Titans franchise on Saturday night (New Zealand time) following a scan on his knee.

The injury occurred while Williamson was playing on debut for the Titans against the Chennai Super Kings. He attempted to catch a ball, but he landed awkwardly on his right leg after seeing he was landing over the boundary, causing him to fall to the ground in pain.

Williamson was carried off the field after receiving treatment for a few minutes and could not bat for Gujurat’s innings as they chased down Chennai’s 178-7 to win by five wickets with four balls remaining. Williamson is expected to play a crucial role for New Zealand in the one-day World Cup in India in October-November.
