“What can you do when you don’t understand why people do what they do?”
    Our class response:
We could gauge their feelings, ask their friends about what they think and try to put ourselves in their shoes and “see” what they “see”.

    Pizza Feast Question
We think that when we don’t understand why people do what they do we should:
    – give people space
    – talk to them and try to understand what they have done, said etc
    – not be quick to judge (we are all different and differences don’t matter)
    – consider the fact that we are all different
    – Know that we should be accepting of differences

We also talked about the fact that sometimes we get a ‘leaky face’ and that this happens before we even realise what we have done. This is something we all need to work on and that it will take time but the more we do this and accept differences the better we will get.

We would also really like to be chosen for the paper, scissors, rock challenge.

Question: “What can you do when you don’t understand why people do what they do?”
Here are 5 different responses our year 7 class could think of:

    1. We can ask for clarification. Sometimes actions from others seem confusing or irrational, but there may be other reasons that we aren’t aware of.

    2. We can try to view their perspective. Try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes and see the situation from their point of view.

    3. Seek advice from others: Talk to friends, family, or a therapist about your confusion and get their perspective on the situation. They may offer insights that you hadn’t considered.

    3. We can try and seek advice from friends and family. Sometimes friends and family can help you understand when confused, and offer insights that maybe you haven’t considered yet.

    4. Our class said that we can try to understand from our point of view. Sometimes our own thoughts can cloud our understanding of other people’s actions.

    5. We should always remember that everyone is unique and different in their own way, and we may not be able to understand what they are going through at their house.

  6. Show empathy and consideration

  7. Room 4 Te Horo School say that you could ask them what they are doing and why. Understand that people act different to us and that can be ok. Move away if it makes you uncomfortable. Tell a teacher if it is bothering you.
