Hasbro copyrights the smell of play-doh

May 21, 2018

Giant toy manufacturer Hasbro has officially trademarked the smell of Play-Doh.

On Friday the company registered the smell under the US Trademark Office. In a statement, they said the smell is “known and loved by fans around the world”.

If you’re wondering how you can possibly describe the smell of play-doh, don’t worry as they have described it.

Apparently, it is a sweet, slightly musky, vanilla-like fragrance, with slight overtones of cherry, and the natural smell of a salted, wheat-based dough.

Play-Doh has been in households since 1956. Throughout history, the recipe – and the smell – for Play-Doh have remained largely unchanged.

It is unclear what prompted the company to trademark the smell now.
