Glasgow has been chosen to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew due to high costs. The Scottish city, which previously hosted the event in 2014, will now organise a scaled-back version of the Games.

The Scottish government has promised to support the event, but with less time and money, some sports will be cut, and there will be fewer athletes. Ten sports will be held across four venues in Glasgow, including athletics at Stockton Stadium and swimming at Tollcross.

Unlike past Games, there won’t be an athlete’s village, and the opening and closing ceremonies will be smaller. Despite these changes, Ian Reid, chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, expressed excitement, saying Glasgow’s facilities and experience make it well-prepared to deliver the event.

The Commonwealth Games Federation is expected to make the official announcement soon.
