France defeated New Zealand 30-29 in a close and exciting game during the Autumn Nations Series at Stade de France on Friday.
This win handed the All Blacks their first loss of the series and marked France’s third consecutive victory over the team. The match was a rematch of last year’s Rugby World Cup opener, also won by France.
New Zealand started strong, with tries from Peter Lakai and Cam Roigard, taking a 17-10 lead at halftime. France, however, fought back with tries from Romain Buros, Paul Boudehent, and Louis Bielle-Biarrey, plus 15 crucial points from fly-half Thomas Ramos. Damian McKenzie’s reliable penalty kicks kept New Zealand in the game, but France’s defence held firm in a tense finish.
Captain Ardie Savea of New Zealand praised his team’s first-half performance but expressed disappointment in missing their goal of an undefeated autumn campaign. France’s head coach, Fabien Galthié, credited his team for their composure and resilience.
France will face Argentina next Friday, while New Zealand concludes their autumn tour against Italy on Saturday.
