September 27, 2013

The New Zealand Football Ferns have won their first tournament victory outside Oceania in 38 years by hammering the Chinese team four goals to nil (4-0)  in the final of the Valais Cup in Switzerland.

After beating traditional powerhouses Brazil 1-0 in their opening match on Monday, a superb second half sealed the tournament win.

After a 0-0 first half the New Zealand team took the lead in the 53rd minute with a Hannah Wilkinson header.

From then on it was one way traffic as  Amber Hearn, two goals, and  Rosie White added to the scoring.

Amber Hearn was named player of the tournament.
