Crusaders crowned 2017 Super Rugby champions

August 6, 2017

The Crusaders have been crowned the 2017 Super Rugby champions following a 25-17 victory over the Lions in the final.

The results means that the Crusaders have won their eighth Super Rugby title after the victory in Johannesburg.

After getting out to an early 12-nil lead, the Crusaders’ chances were boosted just before half-time when Lions flanker Kwagga Smith was red carded for taking out full back David Havili.

After halftime, All Black captain Kieran Read scored.

The Lions came back towards the end of the game scoring two tries in the final quarter against tiring opposition.

However, the Crusaders held on to win the match 25-17 and claim their first Super Rugby title in nine years.
