Breakers miss out on finals

March 2, 2014

The New Zealand Breakers have failed to qualify for the 2014 Australian Basketball League finals series.

The defending champions are now guaranteed to finish with more losses than wins for the first time since 2007.

The Breakers were beaten 92-87 by the Taipans in Cairns over the weekend.

Coming into the game, the Breakers needed to win their remaining four games to have a hope of continuing their title defence.

While the playoffs are out of the question, the Breakers will now be looking to avoid the wooden spoon.

the wooden spoon is the slang term for a team finishing last in a competition.
