Black Caps beat West Indies in first test

New Zealand have comfortably beaten the West Indies in the first cricket Test in Wellington by an innings and 67 runs.

The West Indies were bowled out for 319 midway through the middle session of the fourth day.

Trent Boult (2-87) took the final wicket, bowling Miguel Cummins to end the match with a day-and-a-half to spare.

Man-of-the-match Neil Wagner’s 2-102 gave him a Test-best haul of 9-141 after his seven-wicket bag in the first innings.

New Zealand grabbed control with 520-9 declared in their first innings, a lead of 386.

There were centuries to de Grandhomme and debutante wicket-keeper Tom Blundell,as well as fifties to Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls.

The second Test starts in Hamilton on Saturday.
