Art made from human tears

April 1, 2016

Stubbing your toe might be an unlikely starting point for an art project, but for Maurice Mikkers it was just the inspiration he needed.

The artist banged his toe so hard that it made his eyes well up.

He caught a tear as it rolled down his face, and decided to take a closer look at it, under a microscope.

Salty tears crystallise when they are left to dry out, and form patterns that look a bit like snowflakes.

Maurice was so stunned by how pretty his tear was that he set to work making himself cry again.

He even recruited friends, and they did everything from watching sad films, to chopping onions, to yawning and sneezing to keep the tears flowing.
