A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai had to turn around after one of the pilots forgot his passport.

The flight, UA198, took off from Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday around 2 p.m. with 257 passengers and 13 crew members on board. Two hours into the flight, while crossing the Pacific Ocean, the mistake was discovered.

The Boeing 787 jet was then rerouted and landed in San Francisco at about 5 p.m. local time. United Airlines confirmed that the pilot did not have their passport with them, which is required for entry into another country.

To fix the situation, United sent a replacement crew. The new flight left San Francisco at 9 p.m. and finally arrived in Shanghai early Monday morning, about six hours later than planned. Passengers were given meal vouchers and compensation for the delay.
