On the 2nd of February 2024 College Street Normal School (CSNS) hosted what their school counselors called The Daffodil Day Dash.
Children were encouraged to walk or run laps around the school and could dress up in anything green or yellow. There were wigs, tutus and face paints which all contributed to the energy in the air. The main goal was to raise funds for the Cancer Society, which the pupils did from 6am to 6pm.The route for the Dash was a 200-metre track around the school. To make the event even more exciting and real there was a fire-lit Olympic-style torch which could be passed around while doing laps.
There were two students both in Year Six, Rory Malan and Callen Huxly, who each ran a marathon (42.2km) in the allocated 12 hours. Both boys showed determination and perseverance to achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Most importantly they both boys did it with a smile on their face and encouraged everyone to keep going even if they had to walk.
When the distances were added together, the total distance covered by all the students was more than 2000 km. The teacher in charge, Caleb Young, calculated the students averaged close to a very impressive 300 km per hour.
In conclusion the event was a huge success with more than $7300 raised.
