Rotorua now has its very own version of the popular Monopoly board game, showcasing the city’s famous landmarks and cultural heritage.
The limited-edition board, released by RotoruaNZ and Winning Moves, features Māori language and celebrates Rotorua’s geothermal attractions, local businesses, and iconic spots.
Te Puia, a well-known Māori cultural site, takes the coveted Mayfair spot, while the Rotorua i-Site Visitor Centre is the first square after “Go.” Utilities are named after local businesses, and the Chance and Community Chest cards are written in te reo Māori.
The game also includes new tokens inspired by Rotorua’s attractions, such as a mountain bike, a whitewater raft, the Skyline Luge, and the i-Site clock tower. Israel Suarez-Guido, general manager of Pullman Rotorua, said the hotel was proud to be featured on the board, calling the initiative a great way to highlight the city’s unique places.
“This is more than just a board game,” said Graham Brownrigg from RotoruaNZ. “It’s a celebration of our culture, language, and heritage, bringing a piece of Rotorua into homes worldwide.”
