An Air New Zealand plane was evacuated on the runway at Wellington Airport after smoke was seen coming from one of its engines during landing.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. when Flight NZ5366, traveling from Christchurch to Wellington, experienced an engine fire. All passengers are safe, and no injuries have been reported.

The plane, a turboprop, was shown in a live stream landing with smoke coming from its left engine. Emergency vehicles rushed to the aircraft, and passengers were seen exiting onto the runway, assisted by first responders. The Civil Aviation Authority reported that the plane called a “mayday” at 4:10 p.m. due to the engine fire.

Following the incident, the airport runway was temporarily closed, and many passengers were rebooked on later flights. Travellers waiting for updates expressed frustration about cancellations and delays as the situation unfolded. The cause of the engine fire is still under investigation.
