Day five at the Olympics brought a new medal, final spots, and some ups and downs. Lets see a few of those:

Silver for Hayden Wilde

New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde won a silver medal in the triathlon at the Paris Olympics. He was just beaten by his friend and rival, Alex Yee from Great Britain, in the final meters. Wilde’s race plan went perfectly, but Yee proved to be the better athlete. This comes after Wilde was denied gold due to a penalty at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham two years ago.

Rowing Duo into FinalJackie Kiddle and Shannon Cox, lightweight double scullers, secured a spot in the final by finishing second in their semifinal. Their time was the fifth best across the two semifinals. However, the men’s pair of Dan Williamson and Phillip Wilson finished fourth in their semifinal and did not make the final.

Sailing: Kiwi Crews into Medal Races

In sailing, Isaac McHardie and Will McKenzie are in bronze position in the men’s 49er event, heading into tomorrow’s medal race. They are close to winning gold if they finish high in the final race. The 49er FX crew, Jo Aleh and Molly Meech, reached the medal race in seventh place but are unlikely to win a medal. Windsurfer Josh Armit is in fifth place, while Veerle ten Have improved to eighth.

Swimming: Kiwi Short of Semifinals

Backstroker Kane Follows participated in the 200m men’s heats, finishing second in his heat with a time of 1 minute and 58.63 seconds, but did not make it to the semifinals.

Equestrian

Melissa Galloway, riding Windermere J’Obei W (Joey), did not qualify for the dressage final. She scored 68.913, falling short of the qualifying mark.

Football to Come

The Football Ferns have a crucial match against France tomorrow morning. They must win to have a chance of making it to the quarter-finals.

UPDATE: Football Ferns lost to france 2-1.
