An ice cream van was swept out to sea by an incoming tide at Harlyn Bay, near Padstow, Cornwall.
The dramatic incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon and was captured on video by onlookers. These videos showed the van being tossed around by the waves.
The Kelly Whip ice cream van had been driving around the beach selling ice cream when the tide came in and surrounded the vehicle. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident. The driver had already off-loaded the ice cream before the van was swamped by the tide.
Beachgoers attempted to rescue the van using a rope but were unsuccessful. Later, when the tide went out, a farmer used his tractor to tow the van back up the beach. The Padstow Coastguard and RNLI lifeguards were called to the scene to ensure everyone’s safety.
By around 9:45 PM, the van was recovered safely after the tide receded. The Coastguard confirmed that the driver was safe and that the rescue operation was successfully completed.

At least the ice cream was offloaded. We don’t want the ice cream spreading throughout the ocean. That can kill the fish and possibly make the ocean not safe to swim in.
