Exciting news for football fans in Auckland! The city is getting a new A-League football team called Auckland FC, and they’ve chosen a cool name for themselves – the Black Knights.

Auckland FC is set to join the A-League men’s competition in October 2024, making it the second New Zealand team in the league alongside the Wellington Phoenix, a team that’s been playing since 2007.

The A-League season goes from October to May, with each team playing 26 games before the finals. The Black Knights will have their home games at Mt Smart Stadium and have already confirmed 12 games there.

But that’s not all! The club is also preparing to launch a women’s team for the 2025-26 season. Behind this big move is Bill Foley, a billionaire from the USA who knows a thing or two about sports teams. He owns the Bournemouth AFC football team in England and the Golden Knights hockey team in Las Vegas.

Foley has big dreams for the Black Knights. He’s even thinking about building a new stadium in Auckland that can hold around 17,500 fans. He believes football can inspire people of all ages and backgrounds and sees a great opportunity to make Auckland FC a world-known team.
