In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Air New Zealand has unveiled plans to integrate BETA’s ALIA CTOL, its first battery-powered electric aircraft, into its fleet by 2026.

The aircraft will initially serve as a cargo-only service in collaboration with New Zealand Post.

The ALIA, which has demonstrated an impressive range of over 480 kilometers in testing, will be tailored for routes approximately 150 kilometers in length, according to an Air New Zealand spokesperson.

The strategic decision to focus on cargo operations aligns with the airline’s Mission Next Gen Aircraft program, aiming to launch commercial flights using next-generation, eco-friendly aircraft by 2026.

The purchase of the ALIA, with options for additional planes, signals Air New Zealand’s dedication to flying lower-emission aircraft and contributes to the global effort to revolutionize air travel.
