In a departure from recent trends, Walt Disney Studios is poised to conclude 2023 without a single movie reaching the $1 billion mark at the global box office.
This marks the first occurrence since 2014 that Disney has not had a film surpass $1 billion in a year. By comparison, in 2019, Disney boasted an impressive seven films that achieved this milestone.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stands as Disney’s most successful film of 2023, grossing over $845 million. Although a substantial success, some analysts anticipated it to cross $1 billion or outperform its predecessor, which did not transpire.
Other major Disney releases in 2023 included Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Haunted Mansion, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Elemental, and The Little Mermaid. Despite their considerable earnings, they fall short of Disney’s previous standards. Disney’s The Marvels had the slowest start in MCU history upon its November debut. Even the newest release, animated film Wish, had a modest opening over Thanksgiving weekend.
Looking ahead to 2024, Disney has high-profile releases scheduled, including Inside Out 2, Mufasa, Deadpool 3, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
I will like to watch some of it when I have time
