Record Temperatures in Brazil

Brazil is sweltering under a record-breaking heatwave, impacting the southern part of the country. Red alerts are in effect for nearly 3,000 towns and cities, affecting over a hundred million people.

In Rio de Janeiro, temperatures soared, feeling as hot as 52.5°C, while Sao Paulo averaged 37.3°C. The Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) noted that temperatures have surpassed historical averages from July to October.

These extreme weather events are increasingly linked to climate change, and as greenhouse gas emissions continue, heatwaves are expected to become more frequent and intense. The Earth is also currently experiencing an El Niño weather phase, contributing to global temperature rises.
