Dave Rothstein of Florence, Massachusetts, set out on the Connecticut River in a hollowed-out giant pumpkin in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest journey by a pumpkin boat.

Rothstein carved his 1,024-pound pumpkin into a makeshift boat and paddled from Deerfield to Holyoke, covering a distance of over 40 miles.

The current record is held by Duane Hansen from Nebraska, who paddled 60km in his pumpkin boat in 2022.

Another contender, Steve Kueny of Lebanon, Missouri, recently took a 55km paddling journey in a pumpkin boat. Rothstein expressed that his attempt aimed to raise awareness about the Connecticut River Watershed.
