NZ book website takes on Amazon

A group of New Zealand booksellers has launched BookHub, an online platform designed to compete with Amazon.

The site, which features approximately 1 million unique titles, seeks to take on the e-commerce giant with a distinctively Kiwi approach.

BookHub uses a randomized algorithm that selects the first store for the sale, operating on a “you get this one, I’ll get the next” approach.

This strategy, along with a shorter delivery window, aims to offer New Zealanders a competitive alternative to large overseas retailers and keep business within the country.

BookHub does not have immediate plans for aggressive global expansion but rather hopes to support and strengthen local bookshops in New Zealand. As of the moment, Amazon has not commented on the emergence of BookHub.
