In an astonishing space achievement, India has etched its name in history by accomplishing the world’s first-ever successful lunar landing near the Moon’s south pole through its Chandrayaan-3 mission.

On August 23, at 1:34 pm UK time, the Vikram lander of the mission gently touched down, marking a monumental triumph for India and the entire global space community.

The Moon’s enigmatic south pole, covered in shadows and largely unexplored, has long captivated scientists. The success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission carries immense significance, as it could pave the way for humanity to harness lunar resources, particularly frozen water, for future space ventures and even human settlements.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejoiced in the accomplishment, declaring, “India is now on the Moon.” He hailed the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for their groundbreaking achievement, emphasizing that “the sky is not the limit.” Modi underscored that this lunar feat is a victory not only for India but for the entire world.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission signifies India’s third lunar exploration mission. While the previous missions, Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and Chandrayaan-2 in 2019, did not achieve successful landings, this achievement stands as a testament to India’s dedication and the global progress in space exploration.
