FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced that the Women’s World Cup has “broken even” by generating over $962 million in revenue.

This statement is likely to intensify the calls for equal prize money in women’s and men’s football tournaments. The current prize pools for the World Cup stand at over $185 million for women and over $742 million for men.

While Infantino has previously dismissed calls for equal payments, he highlighted the significant revenue generated by the Women’s World Cup, emphasising that it didn’t result in financial losses.

He urged broadcasters and sponsors to invest in women’s football beyond major events, supporting growth and development at all levels.
