Will Walker, a cyclist from Alaska, is aiming to earn recognition from Guinness World Records after completing a remarkable feat: a 800 km bike ride across Iowa while riding backward.
As part of the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, where he joined around 30,000 fellow cyclists, Walker stood out by sitting on his handlebars and using his backward-facing view to steer throughout the entire journey.
Walker adopted this distinctive cycling style around a decade ago, initially trying it out while chatting with his friends. He decided to see if he could cycle like that, and it eventually led him to participate in various events, gaining recognition globally for his unique approach.
Walker has submitted evidence of his 500-mile backward cycling achievement to Guinness World Records with hopes of securing the record for the longest distance cycled backward. The existing record of 209.77 miles was set by Australian cyclist Andrew Hellinga in 2013.
