Chinese children to have limited screen time

There are plans to regulate children’s screen time based on age in China.

The proposed limits are as follows: 16 to 18-year-olds can have up to two hours of screen time, 8 to 16-year-olds can have up to one hour, and children under eight would be limited to just eight minutes.

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) is advocating for implementing a ‘minor mode’ on smart devices, which would not only enforce the screen time restrictions but also block internet access for individuals under 18 between 10 pm and 6 am.

Parents will have the option to opt out of these time limits if they choose to do so. The CAC is currently seeking public feedback on these plans until 2nd September to consider the opinions and concerns of the public before finalizing the regulations.
