A first-generation Apple iPhone has sold for more than $300,000 at auction in the US.
The phone, which was still in its original packaging, was sold for NZ$300,812.80 after 28 bids.
The auction was held by Louisiana auction house LCG Auctions, which described the phone as a “Holy Grail” among iPhone collectors.
The original iPhone was released in 2007 and was discontinued two months later due to low sales. However, it has since become a cult classic among Apple enthusiasts.
This is not the first time that a first-generation iPhone has sold for a high price. In February, another 2007 edition iPhone was sold for US$63,356 (NZ$100,084).
The high prices that these phones are fetching are a testament to the lasting appeal of the iPhone. The phone revolutionised the mobile phone industry and its impact can still be felt today.
It is also a reminder that even old technology can be valuable, especially if it is in good condition and in its original packaging.
