The Mystics are celebrating their victory in the ANZ Premiership netball competition after defeating the Stars 74-56 in Hamilton.
This win marks their second championship in three years and gave their captain, Sulu Fitzpatrick, a perfect send-off as she retires from the sport.
The final was an all-Auckland match played in a neutral venue. Both teams started off strong, with the Mystics taking a 21-17 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Stars made some defensive changes to counter the Mystics’ shooters. Despite their efforts, the Mystics maintained their lead and went into halftime with a score of 38-29.
The Stars made a comeback in the second half, narrowing the gap to five points at one stage. However, the Mystics responded with a scoring run and extended their lead to 10 points. The Stars fought hard, but they couldn’t catch up, and the Mystics held onto their advantage until the end.
Silver Ferns player Grace Nweke had an outstanding performance, scoring 70 goals with an impressive 96 percent accuracy. Her contribution played a significant role in the Mystics’ victory.
