Erling Haaland, the sensational 22-year-old striker, has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Season following his remarkable debut campaign. Haaland’s goal-scoring spree played an important role in helping Manchester City secure their third consecutive league title.

In addition to this prestigious accolade, Haaland also bagged the title of the league’s best young player, making him the first person ever to win both awards in the same season.

Throughout the season, Haaland displayed unparalleled skill and determination, scoring an astonishing 36 goals in just 35 games. This outstanding feat shattered a longstanding record of 34 goals set by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer almost thirty years ago.

The public, captains of the 20 Premier League clubs, and a panel of soccer experts all contributed to Haaland’s victory in the Player of the Season category. The Norwegian footballer expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am honored to be the first player to win both awards in a single season. It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League, and lifting the trophy last weekend at the Etihad, in front of our fans, was an incredibly special moment for me.”

This marks the fourth consecutive season that a Manchester City player has claimed the Player of the Season award. In the previous years, Kevin De Bruyne won the title in 2019-20 and 2021-22, while Ruben Dias secured the honor in 2020-21.

Haaland faced stiff competition from other outstanding players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Arsenal’s dynamic duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Tottenham Hotspur’s prolific striker Harry Kane, and Newcastle United’s solid defender Kieran Trippier.
