An adventurous emu has returned to its home in Northland after being on the run for four days.

The Bay of Islands Animal Rescue received a call from a resident in Kawakawa, Northland, reporting that their pet emu had escaped and was wandering around the town. Summer Johnson, the founder of the rescue, began searching for the bird but had trouble catching it.

Despite sightings, the bird proved elusive, and it fled into the countryside. Johnson and other volunteers searched for four days but could not locate the emu.

However, the daring emu safely returned home on Wednesday when it strolled into a paddock next to its owner’s house. Johnson was relieved and happy that the emu had been found and returned to its rightful place.
