NZ Breakers have confirmed their place in the 2022/23 NBL playoffs.
They clinched a playoffs spot with victory over Melbourne United in Auckland last night.
The 80-74 victory ensured a top-six finish with 16-10 record and could still get second and an automatic semi-final spot, with two games remaining in their regular season.
The Breakers struggled a little in the first half against Melbourne United and the Australian team that lead 34,31 at half time. But the Breakers came to life in the second half scoring 19 unanswered points to edge ahead at the end of the third period. They held on in the final quarter to win by 6 points.
The result means seventh-placed Melbourne (14-13) cannot catch the Breakers on the competition table and deprive them of a playoff spot.
The Breakers’ remaining games are both away, against bottom-placed Illawarra Hawks on Thursday and second-bottom Brisbane Bullets next Saturday. They will probably need both wins to beat he Cairns Taipans into second.
