Auckland is under a state of emergency after record breaking torrential rain has caused widespread flooding.
The Metservice confirm that Auckland received just over 230 millimeters of rainfall on Friday.
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said that 1000 people are stranded at Auckland Airport, and no domestic or international flights will be arriving or departing on Saturday before 12pm.
Across the region the heavy rain caused road closures and surface flooding. The Police has warned that conditions are dangerous, and people should avoid unnecessary travel.
State Highway 1 in Auckland was forced to close at many points between Warkworth and Waitematā.
Every fire truck in the city was our responding to the weather event, with more than 1000 calls for help by 11pm on Friday night.
