Nawton School take out National Rippa Rugby Championships

August 30, 2016

On Sunday the 21st of August the Nawton Avengers Rippa Rugby team travelled to Wellington to compete in the National Championships. They were lucky enough to fly down to Wellington as Air New Zealand was one of the major sponsors along with NZCT (New Zealand Charitable Trust) and the NZRU (New Zealand Rugby Union).

The Nawton School Rippa team won the Hamilton and the Waikato tournaments, this meant that they qualified for Nationals. At the National tournament they won all seven games including the final against Auckland, winning 25-15.

Last year they played Rippa Rugby for the first time and made it to Nationals where they finished 4th. Over 400 teams from around the country competed in their provincial unions to make it to Nationals. Our team played 21 games throughout their tournaments and didn’t lose one game.

Our team got to hang out with All Blacks for one night, Kreston exclaimed “It was a dream come true“. Te Atawhai described winning as “awesome and exciting”. One of our ALL Team reporters also asked what advice did your coach give, Paige commented that matua Hone always made sure we stayed humble and positive. He always supported us and he’s the best coach ever.

Congratulations to our Nawton Avengers Rippa Rugby Team – Ka mau te wehi!!
