Fire on the Port Hills

February 15, 2017

Two large fires are blazing away on the Port Hills near Christchurch.

The fires are near Early Valley Road and Dyers Pass Road.

The two fires have forced the evacuation of nearby residents. At least one house on Christchurch’s Port Hills has been destroyed.

A dozen helicopters have been involved in the battle against the fires. Sadly, a pilot has died after a helicopter battling fires crashed this afternoon.

The new, multimillion-dollar Christchurch Adventure Park (CAP) is under threat from the fires as they spread. The fire is dangerously close to the top chair lift. The park cost $20 million to build and only opened on December 17 last year after an eight-month build process.
